  • Details
This is a beautiful natural amethyst cluster, weighing 126 grams (4.5 oz). It comes from the personal collection of Nancy and Dennis Garrett, longtime curators of Garrett’s Grotto in Bloomington, Indiana. It later became part of my curated inventory at The Rock Shelf. Its original source location is unknown.

    WEIGHT: 126 grams
    DIMENSIONS: 1.75" x 3" x 1.5"
    ORIGIN: Unknown
PROVENANCE: Garrett Collection → The Rock Shelf

You will receive the exact specimen shown. This cluster displays rich purple coloration with translucent crystal faces, and natural growth textures. No dyes, no coatings, or treatments--color and form align with a natural amethyst cluster. Suitable for collectors, display, or educational use.

Amethyst forms when silica‑rich fluids fill cavities in volcanic rock and slowly crystallize over millions of years. The purple color develops from trace iron exposed to natural radiation within the earth. This cluster displays the classic structure and color that make amethyst one of the most recognizable varieties of quartz.

HISTORICAL NOTE: Amethyst has been valued since ancient times and is one of the twelve stones named in Scripture — appearing in both the High Priest’s breastplate in Exodus and the foundation stones of the New Jerusalem in Revelation.

SCIENTIFIC FUN-FACT: Amethyst has helped geologists understand how natural radiation creates color in quartz and how volcanic fluids crystallize over millions of years.
