Azurite with Malachite on host rock from Morenci Mining District, Greenlee County AZ

This listing features three individual azurite–malachite stones, each sold separately. Each piece measures differently, therefore, will cost accordingly. Every piece shows a natural mix of deep azurite blues with the green banding and surface texture typical of malachite. Each is a raw, unpolished mineral with an organic, rugged formation that highlights the way these copper carbonate minerals naturally grow together.

    STONE 1 - Weight: 76 grams (2.7 oz) Dimensions: ~2"x2.5"x1"
    STONE 2 - Weight: 146 grams (5.1 oz) Dimensions: ~2"x2"x1.2"
    STONE 3 - Weight 86 grams (3.0 oz) Dimensions: ~2.5"x1.75"x1.1"

These specimens are from Arizona, a region known for producing classic azurite–malachite combinations from historic copper‑rich deposits. In geology, this natural combination is also known as azurmalachite, a term used when azurite and malachite occur together in the same specimen.

    HOW IT FORMS
Azurite and malachite form in the oxidized zones of copper ore deposits. As copper-rich fluids move through cracks and cavities in the host rock, they react with carbonate-rich waters.
    • When conditions are slightly more acidic, azurite forms, creating deep blue crystals.
    • When conditions shift toward neutral or basic, malachite forms, producing green banding and botryoidal textures.
Over time, the two minerals often replace one another or grow side by side, creating the striking blue‑and‑green patterns collectors recognize instantly.

    FUN FACT
Early miners in the American Southwest used azurite as a natural guide to locate copper. Its vivid blue streaks across exposed rock often led directly to copper-rich ore bodies. Malachite, forming right alongside it, confirmed they were in the right place.

    HOW TO USE
    This specimen is ideal for:
    • Mineral and rock collections
    • Geology or educational displays
    • Displaying as a natural décor accent
    • Jewelry and ornamental items
Its color contrast and natural texture make it a visually engaging teaching piece, and a very beautiful spectacular piece to wear or display.

    CARE & CLEANING
Azurite and malachite are both copper carbonate minerals, which means they prefer gentle handling.
    • Avoid water — azurite can slowly alter to malachite when exposed to moisture.
    • Do not use chemicals or cleaners.
    • Dust gently with a soft, dry brush or microfiber cloth.
    • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight, as azurite can fade over time.
    • Store in a dry environment to preserve the natural surface texture and color.
