Polychrome Jasper – 10 Tumbled Stones (161 g Total Weight)

This listing includes a set of ten tumbled polychrome jasper stones in mixed shapes and sizes, with a combined weight of 161 grams. Each stone shows the natural range of colors this jasper is known for—earthy reds, soft tans, muted blues, and layered neutrals created by mineral patterns within the stone.

    GEOLOGICAL BACKGROUND
Polychrome jasper is a microcrystalline quartz (chalcedony) that forms when silica-rich fluids move through cracks and cavities in ancient volcanic rock. As these fluids cool and solidify, they trap trace minerals in thin layers. Over long periods of time, these layers build into the multicolored bands and swirls seen in each stone.
The color variations come from naturally occurring elements present during formation:
    * Iron oxides produce reds, oranges, and browns
    * Manganese contributes grays and deep blues
    * Clay minerals create tans, creams, and soft greens

Most modern polychrome jasper is collected from Madagascar, where it formed inside large silicified nodules within old volcanic ash beds. Weathering eventually exposed these nodules, allowing them to be collected, cut, and polished into the smooth forms used today.

    FUN FACTS
Polychrome jasper is one of the more recently recognized jasper varieties—it was only identified in the early 2000s after a new deposit was discovered in Madagascar.
