  • Details
This listing is for one natural piece of petrified wood weighing 458 grams. The original wood structure has been preserved through mineral replacement over millions of years, leaving behind a stone record of grain, texture, and growth.

    HOW PETRIFIED WOOD FORMS
Petrified wood begins as ordinary wood that becomes buried under sediment. Over time, groundwater rich in dissolved silica flows through the buried wood. As the original organic material slowly decays, silica fills in the empty spaces cell by cell, eventually replacing the entire structure with microcrystalline quartz.

    This process preserves:
    - growth rings
    - grain direction
    - internal structure
    - natural fractures and textures

The result is a piece of stone that still carries the architecture of the original tree.

    FUN FACT
Petrified wood is often so detailed that under magnification you can still see individual cell walls from the original tree — even though the wood itself has been gone for millions of years.
